Dear: Andrew Harrison
Through all of these dangerous battles, I am not sure how I'm still alive. Everyday I have to struggle to survive. Whether it be from incoming attacks or from diseases, I have to be prepared for anything and even. In the battles, many of the weapons used are horrifying. One of the inventions for this war was the tank. They are impossible to shoot through and are basically resistant to bullets, however, they often get stuck in ditches or obstacles and cannot further continue. We also have to wear gas masks now because the Germans use some sort of poisonous gas. When we were bombarded with this gas, our commander yelled at everyone to urinate on a piece of clothing and cover our faces. Shocked, I questioned it, but I did it anyways. Those who couldn't do it had started complaining about stomach and throat pains shortly. Not long after, soldiers started dying of what the doctors call 'asphyxiation'. If you were one of the few unfortunate souls who got hit with the gas, a slow and painful death awaited you. Doctors could not find a cure for it and I had to watch one of my best friends struggle just to breathe and slowly die. I will never forget miss last words because they were ' I just want to die.' I cannot imagine how painful it was because he just wished he was dead. The weapons in this war are extremely horrifying. I have watched machine guns just maul down so many soldiers at a time. The bloodshed was just too much and I know that it will be scarred into my mind forever. Try not to be enlisted into the war. Avoid it at all costs, it is the most horrific thing I have ever experienced.
